Move from Tally without losing history
Many businesses outgrow Tally when they need stock control, production, approvals or multi-user access. The biggest worry about switching is the data: years of ledgers, vouchers and balances that must come across correctly.
We built our own Tally to ERPNext migration tool and presented it at Frappeverse 2023. It reads data directly from Tally and creates the matching records in ERPNext, so the work is faster and more accurate than manual imports. We also use AI to help map ledgers, items and parties when names do not match exactly.
Before you start
- Decide the cut-off date, usually the start of a month or financial year
- Finish pending entries in Tally up to that date
- Keep your Tally data available until sign-off
- Have your accountant review the test migration
What we migrate
Masters
Ledgers, groups, customers, suppliers, stock items, units and godowns.
Opening balances
Ledger balances, outstanding bills and stock quantity and value on the cut-off date.
Sales and purchase
Sales invoices, purchase invoices, credit notes and debit notes with GST details.
Payments and journals
Receipts, payments, contra and journal vouchers.
Stock movements
Stock journals and inventory movements, where needed.
Validation
Trial balance and stock report checked line by line against Tally.

Frequently asked questions
Can we move only opening balances?
Yes. Many businesses move masters and opening balances only, and keep old Tally data for reference. You can also choose to bring full transaction history.
Does it work with my Tally version?
Share your Tally version and a backup of your company data. We check it first and confirm what can be moved before the work starts.
Will GST details come across?
Yes. GSTIN, tax categories and tax amounts on invoices are carried over, so GST reports in ERPNext start with correct data.
